We will swim

“Kinds of water drown us. And kinds of water do not,”Anne Carson, Plainwater.

I approached this body of work as I would a documentary of street life, but I chose instead to go underwater. I didn’t use any special equipment, like wetsuits or air tanks to give me an advantage in the water. I wanted to be like every other swimmer. Ascending, descending, remembering, recognizing.

In some places the water temperatures were quite cold, and I would fight to stay under. Other times, the water carried a salty sensuality.  I came to enjoy all kinds of water.
